Bonny Vocational Centre BVC STAFF TOOL DOWN ACTION - NLNG
Information reaching me is that staff of Bonny Vocational Centre(BVC) TOOLED DOWN, classes did not hold until about 11:00 am.
I took the leverage to enquire from some friends and relatives in BVC, I was made to understand that the information was true. When I asked what was the reason for the tools down(industrial action), my sources said the tools down was necessitated by two reasons:
Bonny Vocational Centre BVC STAFF TOOL DOWN ACTION - NLNG
1. Staff of BVC has been on the same salary structure for nine(9) years, the management has been promising them of improved staff welfare/salary for the past six (6) years and that the Board of Trustees(BoT)/is yet to approve the salary increment.
2. They have been running a yearly contract system, their last contract ended on the 31st December 2021. They are yet to sign a new contract, rather they were told by the management of BVC via the schools’ internal mail to go about their job, and that the renewal of their employment with BVC will be issued before the end of January 2022.
When asked what will happen next, I was told by one of sources that they will continue with the tools down until the management and Board of Trustees(BoT) of BVC does the needful, which will include a letter of renewal of employment that captures improved staff welfare/salary that is in line with current economic realities.
My question is;
1. Is NLNG and the Kingdom not aware of all this?
2. Is NLNG doing the same to their staff?
3. What does the labour law in Nigeria state?
4. Is this practice internationally accepted?
