Sea Pirate Attacks in Bonny Island Water Ways is Creating a big Problem for the People FG should help Out – My Response
This period has been a mourning season for me and as such I have chosen to be silence to conclude the burials at hand.
Redd Awanta and I have been at the frontline when it comes to sea pirate attacks. We even develop a mini proposal that could be refined to curb the situation. A screenshot of the proposal can be seen below. I believe we can solve all our problems collectively as a community; however, there must be consequences for bad behavior. And our leaders must show responsibility and accountability.
It is obvious the government lack answers to the sea pirate attacks due to politics, sabotage, and logistics involved. We have seen pictures of gunboats, yet none is operational on our waterways. Why? Who is responsible? We have also seen reactive responses from government officials and after 48h the tempos fade away. Why? These suggest they lack the WILL to handle the problem.
We must develop a community-oriented solution that will put the SECURITY CONTROL in our hands. This is because the government will always have excuses such as logistics like lack of gasoline, technical problems, maintenance, and management. Second, the government security apparatus is overwhelmed by insecurity across the nation at the moment. Hence, people-oriented security is the way forward having experienced these attacks for 13 yrs. The people of Ndele, Rumuji, and Rumuodogo communities’ deployed community-based security to curb the attacks and killings on the East-West road. Today, peace is returning to the communities and along that route. So, you see Bonny-Bodo road will not stop these attacks. We can borrow some ideas from their Security Model while collaborating with the government security architecture.
Conclusively, I condemn these attacks and also join the ENOUGH IS ENOUGH group to call on our people to corporate and work collectively. I’m also available to serve as distance is not a barrier in this digital age
